I see, I care: A counter Narrative story on Remembrance Day

A counter Narrative story

Remembrance Day

Looking back at my schooling years, every Remembrance Day I remember spending at the school’s assembly was viewing presentations on European descent soldiers who gave away their lives to a greater cause, contributing to Canada. Little did I know, other than European descent Canadians, there were Chinese Canadians, Indigenous people, and other ethnic origins of Canadians who fought and helped build Canada!

Last weekend, FunforGOal Foundation brought a small group of youths to visit and volunteer at the Chinese Canadian Military Museum to unpack the stories what was almost forgotten and are historically marginalized. https://www.ccmms.ca/

Many youths were shocked to find out that there were so many Chinese Canadians back then who joined forces to fight for Canada but met with unequal treatment, being denied of their citizens’ rights, despite being born and grow up in Canada.

This event let us wonder how many ethnic groups of Canadains’ stories got lost throughout history.

Their stories deserve to be told, heard, and shared!

We are all settlers here on this land, respect, learn and grow.
