Wellness Expo – Youth & Young Adult Focused

2024 Wellness Expo

Many thanks to our amazing committee members, and the FunforGOal youth leaders for organizing and executing this meaningful event in our multicultural community!

With Jessica and her company, PICI Prosperous, support, we were able to expand our reach to young adults who are international students and newcomers. Being FunforGOal’s social media coordinator, Vivian (@chocoviv) has led the marketing movement and connected Expo with other local social media influencers to help us spread the news. KJ and her KJ studio captured all the amazing moments shared. Luke from Glorious Art Institute and Aryana, led the FunforGOal youth leaders that planned and carried out the fundraising and the kid’s arts & crafts stations.

The support Carol and Julia’s Kitchen provided to the team members and volunteers was phenomenal! The delicious bubble tea and the lunch warmed us up in chilly November.

Jennifer, CLC Events, connected other local community groups to come to support this amazing cause. FT, Events With FT, introduced new community partners to us.

Together, we have brought like-minded vendors, groups, and individuals to bring BC Wellness Expo to you! We work to close the gap!

I see, I care: A counter Narrative story on Remembrance Day

A counter Narrative story

Remembrance Day

Looking back at my schooling years, every Remembrance Day I remember spending at the school’s assembly was viewing presentations on European descent soldiers who gave away their lives to a greater cause, contributing to Canada. Little did I know, other than European descent Canadians, there were Chinese Canadians, Indigenous people, and other ethnic origins of Canadians who fought and helped build Canada!

Last weekend, FunforGOal Foundation brought a small group of youths to visit and volunteer at the Chinese Canadian Military Museum to unpack the stories what was almost forgotten and are historically marginalized. https://www.ccmms.ca/

Many youths were shocked to find out that there were so many Chinese Canadians back then who joined forces to fight for Canada but met with unequal treatment, being denied of their citizens’ rights, despite being born and grow up in Canada.

This event let us wonder how many ethnic groups of Canadains’ stories got lost throughout history.

Their stories deserve to be told, heard, and shared!

We are all settlers here on this land, respect, learn and grow.

I see, I care: Lunar New Year Greeting

2021, Happy Lunar New Year of Ox

FunforGOal Foundation invited youths and their families using the most popular selfie video style to record a 1 minute clip to wish elderlies living in the Villa Cathay Care home a happy Lunar New Year! Show their talent in this clip, help to bring some joy and hope to them in 2021, in this pandemic!

Special thanks to our young host, Jonathan (Jazer) Wu!

Special thanks to Yen, #yenlarts, a local artist for making a contribution to Villa Cathay in support of this activity!

History of Villa Cathay Care Home

A long term care home originally built back in 1922, named Oriental Home, was for the Chinese immigrants who came during gold rush and to built railways. It was a home for those who lived through the harsh times and inequalities. Nowadays, Oriental Home has long changed it’s name to Villa Cathay , moved to a new location, but continue being a non-profit organization providing culturally focused nursing care for Chinese ethnicity elderlies.
