Beginning of the Dream

Our Story

Growing up in the lower mainland area of British Columbia as the first generation of immigrants, throughout our youth years, we struggled on forming a self-identity within the mainstream society, felt dis-connected from both cultures, and most of all we felt lonely. Furthermore, in the midst of learning a new language, getting used to a new environment and planning our student career, we were anxious, living in our own bubbles, and away from enjoying local community activities. After we entered the real world and into the workforce, we realized how helpful participating those activities could be in our upbringings. We want to be an organization with a platform where youths could get support for their making connections, building their career- life experience, and to form their own unique identities within the dominant Canadian culture.

In 2019 we acted on our ideas and started organizing activities for the general public. After a couple successful sessions, we decided to transform FunforGOal into a non-profit organization. FunforGOal Foundation has one focus that is to support youths, especially those whose first language isn’t English and new to Canada, to connect with their immediate and extended communities (the land they are on), to explore their own identities within the dominant Canadian culture through participating community activities.

Even though we were hit by the global Covid pandemic just a couple months after we started, we did not give up or go under, instead we adapt and we keep going. Since then, we have successfully held numbers of activities and workshops under BC’s health regulations. We are thrilled to see how well received these activities were among our youth groups. Especially during difficult times, the opportunity to participate in these community engagements is a great way for them to still maintain some sense of life normality while practicing leadership skills and learning to face and overcome life adversities. We build resilience and perseverance together!
